Flax work has always been community work, but just as these rural structures have been lost, so too has the joint effort become less and less. Small museums in particular are currently struggling with this. There are always too few hands to keep show fields clean, redesign rooms or carry out important maintenance work. Now the small weaving museum in Breitenberg is calling for help and needs you!
Since the 1990s, there has been a small but very fine open-air museum in tranquil Breitenberg that is dedicated to flax and weaving. After the departure of the museum director, the activity around the four buildings and three granaries slowly fell asleep and so the Breitenberg Weaving Museum remained dormant for many years.
Last summer, following a successful social media appeal, we cleaned up part of the area with the help of many hands, had a lot of laughs and celebrated together in the evening. But not everything could be tackled, so we need you again! Please get in touch at office@bertas-flachs.at if you want to take a look behind the scenes of our museum and keep a small house alive!

6 - 7 June 2025 (start Friday approx. 13.00, Saturday all day)
Place:
Breitenberg Weaving Museum Gegenbachstraße 50, 94139 Breitenberg, Germany
Camping by bus or tent is possible directly opposite the site. Toilets and water are provided by the sports club
Catering:
We will definitely provide a snack for lunch and drinks
Breakfast would be provided by yourself, in the evening we would simply open the barbecue fire on the day off and everyone throws on what they like 😊
Procedure:
Most of the work will probably take place on Saturday, but of course we are also happy to have helping hands on Friday.
I will be there on Friday from about 10 to greet and welcome you!

What to do
- Flax weeding
- Plastering work in three farmhouses
- Removal and dismantling of waste wood
If possible, please bring (depending on where you would like to work:
- Tools for dismantling wooden parts (heavy hammer, chainsaw)
- Cleaning kit for the houses
- Garden tools
- WORK GLOVES
We will simply form teams according to preference and taste and tackle as much as we can!
