Flax, fibres & community – With Brigitte Kaltenbacher | BeeKayMakes
All over the world, people are working to make flax bloom again - in the garden, in the field, in the workshop or on the spinning wheel. With this series of lectures, we want to show how diverse the initiatives are that deal with the cultivation, processing and design of flax.
Brigitte Kaltenbacher's lecture marks the start of this series. She presents her project "Let's Grow Flax" from the south of England - a community project in which flax was grown in gardens around Farnham to make jeans.
Brigitte reports on the development of her communal flat group around Farnham (UK)which grew flax on mini plots with around 30 people in 2023 - in gardens, allotments and even flower pots. For the realisation of the project "From Garden to Garment" she was awarded a Arts Council England Grant excellent.
With great enthusiasm, Brigitte shares her knowledge about community flax growing in the city, spinning, weaving & sewing local fibres and the courage to make clothes again. regenerative & local to think
