Sometimes thinking outside the box not only leads to new ideas, but also to real connections. On 25 June at 19.30 Berta's flax to give an online lecture on Austrian flax traditions - in English, for a friendly flax project in the UK. And the best thing is: anyone with an interest in flax, craftsmanship and cultural history is cordially invited to take part. Click here for the Zoom link
Berta's flax is a small, committed association from the Upper Austrian Mühlviertel region, which has set itself the task of preserving old knowledge about flax and linen and bringing it back to life. It also organises the 1 QM Flax project in Austria. From cultivation to fibre production and processing - the project not only collects, documents and communicates, but also works, demonstrates and passes on practical knowledge. The focus is particularly on the stories of the women who have passed on this knowledge over generations.
In the lecture, we take the audience on a journey through the Austrian flax tradition. It is about more than just technology and processing steps. It is about living culture, about passing on knowledge, about being integrated into a landscape and a rhythm of life that seems almost lost today.
Why this lecture in English? Because it is important to us to share experiences - across national borders. The exchange with our British colleagues is a wonderful opportunity for us to learn from each other, to gain new perspectives and to show: Flax is more than just a plant. It is a connecting element between people, traditions and regions.
We are looking forward to many interested listeners, to exciting conversations and to connecting the Austrian flax world with the British one!
